Overview
Kyriakos Apeitos, born in 1887 in Agros and passing away in 1976, left an indelible mark on his village and its people. Known as the "great benefactor of Agros," his life's journey took him from humble beginnings to becoming a prominent Nicosia merchant. Despite his success in commerce, Kyriakos Apeitos held a deep passion for both knowledge and his hometown. In the 1940s, recognizing Agros' educational challenges, he took it upon himself to solve them. He personally funded the construction of what is now known as Apeitos Gymnasium, ensuring that local children had access to quality education without leaving their village. His commitment to education extended beyond mere finances. He and his beloved wife, Kleio, who had no biological children, considered the students of the school their own. They nurtured generations of young minds, instilling the importance of learning. Kyriakos Apeitos' legacy lives on in Agros through various tributes, including the naming of a central street after him and an annual memorial ceremony as well as a monument in front of his beloved Gymnasium. His story is a testament to the enduring impact one person's dedication to education and community can have.
